On a cold and foggy January morning in 2008, the churning and turbid waters near the Skyway Bridge suddenly became still.
One after another, huge green and gold Sentinels, many almost as tall as the bridge itself, silently slipped out of Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Sentinels Football Team had begun their long journey towards the National Public Safety Charity Football League Championship. The road has been difficult, and there is still a long way to go.
The Sentinels will be ready, and this time, nobody will see them coming.
In order to shape their future, the Sentinels had to learn from their past.
The Tampa Bay Sentinels were the 3rd public safety football team to join the National Public Safety Football League from Tampa.
The first Tampa Bay team to join the National Public Safety Football League was the Tampa Bay Guardians. They represented Tampa Bay area from 1993-1999.
In 2000 the football team split. Half of the team went to the Orlando area, where they formed the Orlando Guardians.
The other half stayed in the Tampa Bay area. They formed the Pinellas Posse, which was later renamed to the Tampa Bay Posse.
The Tampa Bay Posse represented our area in the National Public Safety Football League from 2000 through 2003. In 2004, the Tampa Bay Posse became a Florida Six-Man Football team, and left the NPSFL.
From 2004 until 2007 the entire Tampa Bay Area was left without NPSFL Football, and darkness fell across the land...
Like any new army being tested in battle for the first time, the Sentinels took heavy losses. Despite being outnumbered they fought every battle until the bitter, and usually bloody end.
For the next two years they fought, trained, then fought again. They sharpened their deadly skills. Sentinel generals have drafted their battle plans. Sentinel warriors are poised and ready.
2010 was a struggle, but the Sentinels earned their first victory.
Now's your opportunity to be part of the Tampa Bay Sentinels' 2011 as a Player, Sponsor, Coach, Volunteer, or Board Member.
